Barber Continuing Education Information
2022-2024 Barber Continuing Education Hours Requirement
CE Hours are required to be completed between
September 1, 2022 and August 15, 2024
An individual that holds a barber, barber teacher, or assistant barber teacher license is required to complete the following CE hours:
- One (1) hour - Board Laws and Rules Course:
This course will be applied to multiple licenses.
NOTE: Only provided by the Board, available on CE Broker - Three (3) hours - Infection Control & Safety:
This course will be applied to multiple licenses.
All CE hours are required to be completed by August 15, 2024. If you are required to complete CE hours, and those hours are NOT completed by the August 15th deadline, you will not be able to complete your license renewal until September 1, 2024 or after, when new CE courses become available.
If a license is NOT renewed by the August 31, 2024 deadline, a late fee will be charged.
Renewal of a License is a two-step process
Step 1 Complete all required CE hours. Completion of CE hours is reported to CE Broker by the Provider of the CE class.
Step 2 Go to https://elicense.ohio.gov log in to your Elicense account and complete the renewal application and submit the required fee(s).
Continuing Education Hours Exemptions
- Held a license for 30 years or more
Licensees who have held an Ohio Board license for thirty (30) or more years, before May 3, 2024, are NOT required to complete CE hours.
Payment of renewal fee is required to keep a license current and active.
- Sixty-Five (65) or older
Licensees who are age sixty-five (65) or older, before May 3, 2024, are NOT required to complete CE hours.
Payment of renewal fee is required to keep a license current and active.
- First-Time Licensee
If this is your first Ohio license, you are not required to obtain CE hours for the renewal period ending August 31, 2024. Payment of the renewal fee is required to keep a license active. NOTE: A Barber Teacher as well as an Assistant Barber Teacher license is not eligible for this exemption.
Payment of renewal fee is required to keep a license current and active.
It is the responsibility of the licensee to determine if a Continuing Education (CE) class has been approved by the Board. Licensees should ask the provider of the class if Board approval has been obtained. If there are questions regarding specific course content, loss of a certificate of completion, directions, etc., please contact the provider of the class directly.
When taking a continuing education class, licensees are required to sign-in to the class using their name and Board license number (e.g.BARB.991234). Upon completion of the class, licensees should receive a certificate of completion. The certificate should include the date, class location, hours, course approval number, and class name.
NOTE: During the CE audit the Board may request proof of completion of CE hours. Therefore, the certificate should be retained in a safe and accessible place. Click Here to view a list of approved CE classes.
Cosmetology or Branch of Cosmetology Continuing Education Information
COSMETOLOGY OR BRANCH OF COSMETOLOGY
2023-2025 CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
An individual that holds a license to practice cosmetology, a branch of cosmetology, or an instructor license is required to complete the following CE hours:
- One (1) hour - Board Laws and Rules Course:
This course will be applied to multiple licenses.
NOTE: Only provided by the Board, available on CE Broker - Three (3) hours - Infection Control & Safety:

All CE hours are required to be completed by January 15, 2025. If you are required to complete CE hours, and those hours are NOT completed by the January 15th deadline, you will not be able to complete your license renewal until February 1, 2025 or after, when new CE courses become available.
If a license is NOT renewed by the January 31, 2025 deadline, a late fee will be charged.

Inactive (Escrow)
Licensees that place their license in an “INACTIVE” status are not required to complete CE hours during the time the license is classified as “INACTIVE”. Completion of the required number of CE hours must be completed in order to restore a license to an “ACTIVE” status.

Lapsed/Amnesty
If a renewal fee has not been received for two-consecutive renewal periods (4 years), the license will go into a “LAPSED” status. To restore the license to an ACTIVE status, the licensee is required to pay all back fees and obtain up to twenty-four (24) hours of CE.

Boutique Service Registration Continuing Education Information
BOUTIQUE SERVICE REGISTRATIONS
